Here's the deal with my house...

We do something kinda major every year to the house during Bill's down season. One year he finished the basement, another he installed tile floors, we've redecorated and painted rooms, etc. It's been great to watch the house "bloom" year after year. This year Bill wanted to refinish the hardwood floors and paint the interior of the house. While those were valiant winter projects, there was one part of the house that was even more deserving in my opinion...the kitchen. When we built this house a little over 8 years ago, the builder had installed the WRONG cabinetry. He put in white-washed oak rather than white. It's always looked "pink" to me and I have LOATHED it from day one. The reason the builder would not rectify the cabinetry is because we already had paid for all of the flooring and lighting in the house ourselves, not to mention that Bill actually had installed the hardwood floors and tiled the kithen island before we moved in. We were pretty locked into buying the house no matter what. (Virgin house builders...we learned A LOT!) So when we decided to refinish the floors, we began to think what better time to replace the kitchen cabinetry...which leads to new countertops...which leads to new tile around the fireplace...which leads to painting and using the old cabinetry to build a kitchenette in the basement ...which leads to painting the kids' bathroom vanity while we've got the paint sprayer and color set up and ready to go. Whew! So here we are...embarking on a very long journey (6-8 weeks...I'll be counting down the days and hours and minutes for sure and blogging it all). I have to keep reminding myself it'll all be worth it when it's done! We ordered our new cabinets in maple...they are gorgeous! The finish is called cognac...yummy:) We are planning on installing granite tile on the countertops with a stone tile backsplash. We will match the tile on the backsplash to the new tile around the fireplace. I'm still in the process of picking out my paint color for the interior. This is all the current plan..it could easily change. But I will be keeping you all posted and be getting my therapy through this HUGE project by posting about it. Wish us luck!
